This Is Why We Stand: James C. McCloughan


 

On July 31, 2017, United States Army veteran James C. McCloughan was awarded the Medal of Honor in a ceremony at the White House. McCloughan was 23 years old at the time of the action that earned him the Medal of Honor. On May 13-15, 1969, he was serving as a combat medic in the Vietnam War. During 48 hours of intense close combat fighting against enemy forces, McCloughan voluntarily risked his life on nine separate occasions to save wounded and stranded comrades. He is credited with saving the lives of 10 brothers-in-arms.
